Ten countries sign onto UNIFEM’s say NO to Violence Against Women campaign

United Nations, New York/Vienna — The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) welcomed prime ministers and foreign ministers representing 10 countries, the European Commission, and others as leading participants to its Say NO to Violence against Women campaign (www.saynotoviolence.org) at an event in Vienna organized by Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik.

UNIFEM commends unanimous Security Council call to end sexual violence

"Wartime sexual violence has been one of history's greatest silences. Yesterday's unanimously-adopted Security Council Resolution 1820 ends - once and for all - the debate on whether systematic sexual violence belongs on the Council agenda. In the words of United States Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, who chaired the debate, "today we respond to that lingering question with a resounding yes".

Mayors of Yokohama and Sakai sign on to UNIFEM’s Say NO to Violence Against Women Campaign

The mayors of the cities of Yokohama and Sakai in Japan today became the first mayors to sign on to UNIFEM’s Say NO to Violence against Women campaign (www.sayNOtoviolence.org).

Mr. Hiroshi Nakada, Mayor of the City of Yokohama, and Mr. Keisuke Kihara, Mayor of Sakai City, added their names to the campaign during ceremonies in their respective municipal offices earlier this morning.

Australia will work with Pacific Governments and the United Nations to strengthen women's leadership in the region

Spanish Government signs onto UNIFEM’S Say NO To Violence Against Women Campaign

United Nations, New York/Madrid — Spain has signed on to UNIFEM’s Say NO to Violence against Women campaign (www.SayNOtoViolence.org). Today, during a ceremony in Madrid, Bibiana Aído, Minister of Equality, added her name on behalf of the Spanish Government in the presence of UNIFEM Executive Director Inés Alberdi.

Tanzanian President Signs UNIFEM’S Say NO To Violence Against Women Campaign

Dar es Salaam, 27 May 2008 — President of the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete signed UNIFEM’s Say NO to Violence against Women campaign on Saturday 24 May 2008 in Dar es Salaam.
