UN Women
UN Women Australia is the National Committee for UN Women in Australia and is one of 18 National Committees including the US, UK, Sweden and Canada.
The National Committees support UN Women through membership programs, raising public awareness of gender and development issues and fundraising for UN Women projects around the world.
Since its inception in 1989, UN Women Australia (formerly UNIFEM Australia) has grown and now includes the National Office in Canberra, as well as UN Women Australia Chapters, International Women’s Day Committees and Young UN Women Australia Committees in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin and Perth.
The National Office co-ordinates UN Women activities within Australia (including events, policy, awareness-raising and fundraising) and liaises with the UN Women Head Office in New York.
UN Women Australia is an active participant in UN activities relating to gender and development and sends an annual delegation to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Objectives of UN Women Australia are to:
- Raise financial resources to support the general programs and priorities of UN Women and the Trust Fund in Support of Actions to Eliminate Violence against Women;
- Be a dynamic membership based organisation that conducts multi-faceted fundraising, communications and outreach programs;
- Increase the active support and interest of the public and the Australian government to the important leadership roles of women in the economic and social progress of developing countries in general; and, in particular, to UN Women's work to advance gender equality and women's human rights;
- Disseminate widely UN Women publications and materials in national, regional and locally based media: radio, electronic, television, and print;
- Monitor and encourage the Australian Government to increase contributions to UN Women and to monitor its activities in this regard and to thereby support UN Women to achieve the mandate and mission set out by its founding UN General Assembly resolution and the programs and priorities indicated in its Strategic and Business Plan; and
- Co-operate with other national organisations which share a common concern for meeting the needs of women in developing countries, in consultation with UN Women.
