Australia’s Aid to the Pacific

The 2008/2009 Australian Federal Government Budget included a significant increase to Australia’s foreign aid commitments. Australia’s International Development
Assistance Program aimed to reduce poverty, support economic growth and boost progress towards the Millennium Development Goals.

The 2008/2009 Australian Federal Government Budget laid the foundations to the Government’s election commitment to increase Australia’s official development assistance (ODA) to 0.5 per cent of Gross National Income (GNI) by 2015. The 2008/2009 Australian Federal Government Budget saw the ODA rise to $3.7 billion,
equal to 0.32 per cent of GNI.
